This August, The Garden Bristol presents Splat! Art Camp, a two-day workshop which asks “What is art?” and “What do I want to do with it?” This is a chance to connect, collaborate and create, using our well-resourced woodland setting as a base and venturing out as a group to an exhibition in Bristol, which we’ll use as a prompt for our own strange explorations.
Who’s it for?
Teens and tweens – one of our camps is for ages 10-14, the other is for ages 12-16
What will we do?
Whatever we want to do! The Garden runs on principles like self-direction and shared decision-making. It would be really odd (and not in the good way!) for us to tell you, “This is what’s definitely going to happen and this is what you’re definitely going to make.”
But we’re offering the opportunity to look at folk stories, storytelling, character building, sculpture, film, costume or nature art. And we’re leaving it really open to see what happens! Maybe you’ll want to work on your own thing or make something with other people on the day. Or maybe you’ll just want to hang out around other people trying things out. The Garden is a great place to just be if that’s what you want to do.
Who’s facilitating the sessions?
Sylvie and Adele from The Garden mentor team. Sylvie is a queer artist with a fascination for spiders and loving the unloved in nature. Adele is a writer who sees games as the answer to most things.
When is it?
11-12 August: Splat! Art Camp for ages 10-14
19-20 August: Splat! Art Camp for ages 12-16
How much does it cost?
£80 (£40 per day)
Please get in touch if cost is a barrier – we may be able to help in some way. Also, The Garden Bristol is OFSTED-registered so you may be able to claim for childcare.
